Settlers of Catan, also known to many as just Settlers or Catan, is one of the earliest resource management board games that allows each individual player to weigh the pros and cons of their resources. It teaches players basic opportunity costs and business strategies in choosing which path they want to follow. It is a game of communication and the players are sucked into a real-life business situation. Rational players seek for positive rewards. Players can stick to their different strengths by specializing and trading with others, building the largest army, and utilizing many other strategies. Some could say that this sounds like a monopoly, but unlike monopoly, Catan is a real-life situational business game where everyone plays by the same rules and the ones who stick to their strengths and have the lowest opportunity costs win.
